Bindu born on January 17, 1951 is a Bollywood actress who gave popular performances during 1970's, 80's and 90's.

She first landed in Bollywood with a role in "Anpadh" starring Dharamendra and Mala Sinha directed by Raj Khosla. In the movie,she played a young graduate though in real life, she was only 11 years old.

She climed the ladders of success with the movie "Kati Patang" directed by Shakti Samanta where she appeared in the song "Mera Naam Shabnam" as a Cabaret Dancer. The song is still popular with the audiences. Bindu from then on, mostly took negative roles and became popular as a Vamp along with Helen and Aruna Irani.


Bindu had everything that a sex symbol in Bollywood should possess.She was beautiful,fair skinned and carried herself with good poise.However despite having everything she could not bag lead roles in the films.

After Kati Patang,came her roles in movies like Ittefaq in the year 1969 and Imtihaan in 1974 where she played a seductress.The movie Hawas(1974) where she played a nymphomaniac left the audience in awe of her. Bindu proved that an actress can have a tag of being a sex symbol despite her marital status.

But being sexy was not the only thing that she could do. Her roles in "Arjun Pandit" and "Abhimaan"(1973) showed the industry she can act too. In the movie "Chaitali",she was as convincing as the lead character of a crippled woman Chaitali.

Akshay sends Katrina get well soon wishes

Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif is down with jaundice and missing from the promotions for her latest outing De Dana Dan. And her co-star Akshay Kumar was prompt in wishing her speedy recovery.Rumours were rife that the actress was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai Monday night, where she was diagnosed with jaundice and has been advised complete bed rest for a while.Asked if it were true, Akshay said: “Katrina is down with jaundice… We are missing her and hope she gets well soon.”

Apparently De Dana Dan is Akshay and Katrina’s sixth outing together after movies like Hum Ko Deewana Kar Gaye and back to back hits like Namastey London, Welcome and Singh Is Kinng.They also starred recently in underwater thriller Blue.Akshay, who has had a string of flops this year with Chandni Chowk To China, 8×10 Tasveer, Kambakkht Ishq and Blue, is now keeping his fingers crossed for De Dana Dan.”Our chemistry does work and we’ve seen the results in Singh Is Kinng and other films and we expect the same from this film too.

This movie should do very well and I expect great returns for my producers. I have great expectations from this one,” he said. My wife has stripped me bare: Om Puri

Veteran Hindi and international film actor Om Puri has stoutly defended wife Nandita Puri s book on his life and times, asserting that the controversy over it wasn t a stage-managed publicity stunt.At a function organised to release his biography, An Unlikely Hero: Om Puri, at the 40th International Film Festival of India on Wednesday, the globally known thespian said: It isn t easy for a woman to write a book on her husband. But Nandita has done a fantastic job, with detachment, objectivity and honesty. She has sized me up perfectly, both personally and professionally. Puri continued: Not only has she highlighted my early life and growth as a man, she has also thrown light on my personal life, affairs and weaknesses with the professionalism of a seasoned journalist who has two decades of experience.

The biography, published by Roli Books, has been in the news for allegedly causing a rift between husband and wife.Puri, who is the current chairman of the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), had been quoted by certain sections of the press as saying that he wouldn t let his wife get away with it . Speaking here, the actor pilloried the media, both print and electronic, for blowing the controversy over the book out of proportion. They gave the impression that this biography is a scurrilous, sensational piece of writing. Believe me, it is anything but that. The focus on my personal life is only a small part of the book, he said.With this book, my wife has stripped me bare and I enjoyed being stripped by her, Puri said, his tongue firmly in cheek. The controversy was a result of a misunderstanding. I assure you that it wasn t a publicity stunt that my wife and I decided to orchestrate in order to sell the book.

Nandita Puri, on her part, asserted that she approached the task of writing her husband s biography with as much detachment and empathy as she could muster. Striking a balance was important. That is the only way I could have done justice to the book, which covers every aspect of the 60 years of his life, she said, speaking at the book release function.Om Puri pointed out that Nandita was no greenhorn as a writer and knew exactly what she was doing. She has written two screenplays as well as an anthology of short stories. She is now working on a big historical novel, he said.The actor said that the story of his life was worth narrating. At the age of seven, I was a rag-picker. I would collect coal that steam engines would leave behind at the railway station. I would wait until the coal cooled down and then take it home to be used as fuel, he recalled.From there on, he added, he went on to school, college, drama school and the film institute, evolving as a human being all the way.

Nandita has captured all that with great skill and lucidity, he said. Puri paid a special tribute to his teachers and mentors who helped him become what he is today. If men like Govind Nihalani and Shyam Benegal hadn t made the films that they did, I wouldn t have been the actor I am, he said. Bollywood divided on capturing 26/11 on reels

A year after the country’s entertainment capital witnessed one of the worst-ever terror attacks, Bollywood is still divided on whether it is the right time to bring alive the 26/11 carnage on the silver screen.Though around 10 film titles revolving around the tragedy have been registered and a couple of low-budget movies are ready for release, mainstream filmmakers have chosen to stay away from the issue after noted director Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘terror tourism’ episode, which got him much flak and cost the then Maharashtra CM Vilasrao Deshmukh his chair. Filmmaker Rensil D’silva, whose debut movie Kurbaan recently hit the screens, feels it is too early to explore the subject as the audience is not ready for it.”Not anytime soon. The wounds are yet to heal. We should wait for at least 3-4 years before embarking on a film on the subject.

Hollywood made films on the 9/11 terror attacks but these films were made just four years ago, a few years after the tragedy,” said D’silva, who directed the Saif Ali Khan- Kareena Kapoor starrer with terror in the backdrop.”Besides whatever details we have is just about 40 per cent of the facts of the attacks, barely enough to portray a tragedy of such magnitude as 26/11,” he said.However, industry’s bad man Gulshan Grover does not subscribe to D’silva’s views and says “there is nothing like a proper time to tell a story. There are many people around the world who are curious to know what happened on 26/11.”"As long as the story is authentic and sincere and the film fraternity is not looking to just commercially exploit the subject, I see no problem why a movie (on the subject) should not be made,” he asserts.

Actor-filmmaker Anant Mahadevan, who is ready with his next release Red alert, with a naxal setting, reasons that the Indian film industry does not have enough means to deal with the subject, which is why it is not willing to take risk.”It is not possible to recreate the Taj Hotel..where would you create the inferno? Where is the budget? Besides, what we have is only a superficial idea of what happened and no one has tried to go down deep into the issue. Inadequacy of research and budget have restrained the industry,” he said.”What we can do is to take one particular human angle.. for instance the case of the fisherwoman (Anita Uddaiya), who claimed to have seen the terrorists landing on the sea shore and was allegedly whisked off by the FBI, and other stories of human courage and give them an investigative touch,” he said.”Did she know too much? Is she hiding something?

Does FBI know something which it is hiding from us? that may be a story I would like to explore,” the director of Dil Vil Pyar Vyar and Dil Mange More said.

Farhan Akhtar mobbed in Kanpur

Farhan Akhtar was mobbed at an awards function in Kanpur recently. As a result, the Rock On!! star had to be locked inside a room for over an hour till the crowds dispersed. The director-actor was attending the Madhavrao Scindia Awards ceremony where he was honoured for outstanding performance in cinema.

Says a source close to Farhan, “At the event there were intellectuals, industrialists and politicians. But the situation turned chaotic as there were many young people in the audience. They became quite excited after seeing Farhan and charged on to the stage.” Says Farhan, “There was a crowd but one manages to get over such things.

It was a novel situation, I haven’t been locked inside a room before!He points out, “It becomes more awkward at such events when I am asked to sing impromptu. After Rock On!! wherever I go, people expect me to break out in song and it’s hard to do that. ‘Kuch ek-do line gaa lijiye’ they say but I feel awkward to sing randomly like that. Fortunately, they didn’t ask me to sing in Kanpur.”

Deepika Padukone cutting off ties with Ranbir?

Why has Salman’s yankee accent disappeared?

Salman Khan remains Salman Khan when it comes to his acting in most of his films is what his critics keep complaining about… be it his yankee accent or erratic attitude. These comments have definitely lessened post the success of ‘Wanted’. However Sallu seems to have taken this accusation way too seriously as he will not only be sporting a different look but also flaunt an all new attitude in his forthcoming film Dabang.Dabang is Salman’s brother Arbaaz’s first production which stars Sonakshi Sinha (Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter), Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan in the lead roles. The film is being directed by debutant director Abhinav Sinha and will see Salman Khan in a completely new light.Dabang itself means a fearless cop so no prizes there to guess what role will Salman play in this film.

Brother Sohail has revealed that the film will see Salman in a very loud character. “He plays a corrupt police officer based in the north who loves to mouth loud dialogues in northern accent. For the first time he will play a negative role. He has never played such a role before” said Sohail.Renowned fashion designer Ashley Rebello who has designed outfits for Salman in this film revealed, “Salman will sport an altogether different look in Dabang. He plays a cop but is dressed in civilian clothing most of the time. Salman is clad in simple clothes throughout the film. Trousers, shirts and no much of body or bicep show from the superstar. He won’t look fashionable as he always does. It’s no where close to Wanted or even Garv.

Raj insisted on not inviting Akshay

Akshay Kumar and Twinkle were not part of the 30-odd B-Town folk invited to the Shilpa Shetty-Raj Kundra wedding reception last night. Says a source, “The newly-weds didn’t want to be in an embarrassing situation and thought it best not to invite Akki and Tina. Akshay and Shilpa were romantically involved over a decade ago and while they were dating, there was talk of marriage.

However, Akki married Tina and a heartbroken Shilpa had to move on. In fact, Raj was firm about Akshay not being invited for the reception.”The source adds that though Shilpa and Akshay met and sorted out their differences a few years ago things again turned awkward after a British tabloid report. “Akshay was livid over a ‘funny’ story which had come out in The News of the World in 2007 after Shilpa had won the UK celebrity show Big Brother.

A furious Akshay had even threatened to sue the tabloid. Last year, the actor had even showed up for the finale of Bigg Boss 2, which Shilpa had anchored. They appeared at ease with each together.”

Shahid Kapoor brings Big B nostalgia back

Shahid Kapoor does in ‘Chance Pe Dance’ what Amitabh Bachchan did in ‘Yaarana,’ on his way to becoming a renowned singer in the film, and with much of the same dexterity!At the start of the recently released theatrical trailer of Chance Pe Dance, Kapoor is heard mouthing the tongue twister “Kaccha Papad Pakka Papad” like a pro.In the film, Kapoor plays a struggling actor determined to make it big in Bollywood. So along with his daily physical exercise regimen he is also seen doing elocution and pronunciation exercises.

Actors mouth tongue twisters to get their pronunciation right. Shahid uses the technique religiously every morning before arriving on set, says a source from the Chance Pe Dance unit.Considering the toungue twisters that Shahid had to mouth in Kaminey because of his character’s lisp, you would imagine Shahid didn’t need any more practice. If you can say “Favere favere iff manhoof ka chehera dekho to raat tak mayyat pakki famjho” then you have been there, done that. Not so for the perfectionist ‘Fahid!’

Shahid is currently in Bangkok filming for Yashraj Films’ production, Friends N Co. (Working title), directed by Prameet Sethi and featuring Anushka Sharma as co-star. He says he will be back to Mumbai in mid December to promote Chance Pe Dance from end December. The film is due in theaters on January 15.

I am the biggest idiot: Aamir Khan

It seems like the ‘pucca idiot’ effect. Actor Aamir Khan appears to be in no mood to stir up the Khan war again, especially with Shah Rukh Khan, as his next movie 3 Idiots gears up to open this Christmas Day.”I am not the emperor. Instead, I am a joker, I am the biggest idiot,” he said when asked for a reaction on being called ‘the emperor of Bollywood’ – that clearly puts him above the ‘King’ Khan SRK – by his 3 Idiots’ co-star Kareena Kapoor.Last year, besides taking a jibe at Shah Rukh’s No. 1 status in Bollywood, he had also termed Salman and SRK as the industry’s idiots along with himself.But now, he clearly doesn’t want a clash or war of words.

“Did I really call them idiots? I don’t remember,” he said while jokingly checking with other journalists if he had really said it. “I feel a person’s opinion keeps changing with times. At different points, distinct people appear idiots to you,” he said.Aamir’s latest reaction is in sharp contrast to his last year’s diatribe. Maybe, all of that had to with the fact that his last year’s hit – Ghajini – released in the same month as SRK’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. But this time round, he has no competition. Coming to Salman, Aamir firmly clarified that his blog shouldn’t be viewed as a publicity vehicle for his films. “My blog is not meant to promote films,” he stated when asked about Sallu’s newly- launched blog for his new film, Veer.

However, Aamir was all praise for Kareena.The actor, in fact, found her “too pretty” to be called the fourth idiot. “Kareena has worked hard in this film. As a creative girl, she has come across as very clear and evolved,” he added.Aamir was in town on Wednesday to release a new song of 3 Idiots. Though the event was initially slated to kick off at Sri Ram College of Commerce, it was shifted at the last minute to a five-star hotel due to security concerns.”I worked very hard for my physique in 3 Idiots after bulking up for Ghajini. I lost all the weight in six- seven months to look like a college boy,” said Aamir, who was accompanied by ” the other two idiots – R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi.” It’s not surprising that Aamir took the centrestage even as Madhavan and Sharman looked on.

Unlike Aamir, the two actors could “easily identify with” their roles.Aamir conversely felt he “never experienced college in real life.” “I started working right after my school days as an assistant director in films. So, I could never really experience the thrill of college life. But my school life was fun since I was into sports and would always get less marks,” he stated.Low marks notwithstanding, he has a personal take on the education system. “It should help build complete personalities instead of just focusing on results. I think the current HRD minister is taking the right steps,” he said.

Adnan Sami to Produce Jackson 5 Album

Adnan Sami has confirmed that he is to produce a comeback album for the Jackson 5. In the original project, he had intended to include Michael Jackson, but now the lead parts will be sung by Michael’s sister Janet, with the remaining brothers Jermaine, Tito, Randy, Jackie and Marlon being the original group. "Janet is definitely going to be a part of the new project,” Adnan said, “It's early to discuss the album's details, but we are looking to release it next year. It will be a different kind of a collaboration - something nobody has seen before. Janet will bring her unique style to the songs.

 

Adnan promises the new album will be contemporary with a fusion of traditional Motown and Bollywood themes, not unlike the recent track he worked on with Jermaine Jackson, 'Let’s Go To Mumbai City'. “Michael and I were constantly bouncing ideas, back and forth,” Adnan explained, “Unfortunately, before any of them could take shape, he was gone. This will be our tribute to our lost brother.”

 

Adnan has been suffering lately with gallstones and was in hospital all last week. Suddenly, he was visited by Shilpa Shetty, who insisted he get well and attend her wedding reception. “Why would the bewitching Shilpa suddenly show up in my room?” an astonished Adnan asked, “Only later did I get to know her father was in the same hospital for suspected malaria. But it was very sweet of Shilpa to invite me.” Adnan pulled himself out of bed and went to the reception with his son.

Aishwarya Rai will be seen in another role of a queen

After essaying the role of Maharani Jodhaa, Aishwarya Rai will be seen in yet another role of a queen – the beautiful yet powerful Mumtaz Mahal in whose memory King Shah Jahan made the eternal symbol of love – Taj Mahal.

 

This project will be Hollywood actor Sir Ben Kingsley’s home production where he will play Emperor Shah Jahan and Aishwarya Rai will play his lady love. This film will be made on a whooping budget of $25 to $30 million.

British novelist and playwright David Ashton will be scripting the story for this film and Kingsley confirms the news.

 

“With my passion for India, and the Taj Mahal one of the Seven Wonders of the World, I am compelled to ask ‘why’ and ‘how’ this scream of grief frozen in marble came into being,” said Sir Ben when asked about the reason of this initiative.

John Abraham chooses safer sex

Bollywood’s handsome dude John Abraham is raising his voice for safe sex, he has made a pledge and wants other to follow. So, are you with him?

 

The actor has join hands with the anti-Aids campaign ‘I Pledge’ organized by Smita Thackeray’s Mukti Foundation to promote safe sex.

 

Perfect ambassador John has also pledged to make the difference through his commitment. “I want the youth to pledge to practice safe sex, to be faithful to partners, get tested for HIV, spread awareness, use new syringes and not visit commercial sex workers.”

 

According to Smita, John is the perfect choice, “I wanted a youth icon to take the same pledge I had taken (to eradicate HIV) and encourage our youth to do the same.”

 

“I will come wherever they call me to talk about the subject and propagate safe sex. I want to tell everyone; especially the youth that we need to have safe sex and wear condoms,” John is quoted by a tabloid.

Mani Ratnam interested in casting Ranbir for his next film

Ranbir Kapoor has every reason to be exuberant. His career going great guns, the young and handsome lad is slowly but surely emerging as the superstar of tomorrow. No surprise that he’s on the wishlist of top notch directors.

 

Mani Ratnam is learnt to be interested in casting Ranbir for his next film after Raavan. The film is tentatively titled ‘Azan’ and will probably have Ranbir playing the titular protagonist who is named Azan because he was born at a time when a call to prayer (Azan) in the mosque was made.

 

Unlike the recent films on jihad or terrorism, this flick is said to be based on a theme that will present the Muslim perspective from a different angle.

 

Ratnam has reportedly been tracing the continuous rise of Ranbir ever since he made his debut in Saawariya. The success of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani has only cemented Ranbir’s position as not just a bankable star but also an actor of talent.

 

If Ranbir indeed agrees to act in Azan, the movie will go on the floors after the release of ‘Raavan’ in May next year.

Sherlyn Chopra to entertain prisoners

The inmates of the Arthur Road jail can expect to have a blast when Bollywood sex bomb Sherlyn Chopra visits them on Sunday.

 

However, unlike her other appearances, Sherlyn won’t shake her butt to any raunchy item song. Rather she will restrict herself to reciting poetry to the inmates and cheer them up with her presence. She will also distribute copies of The Bhagvad Gita to the prisoners.

 

The day couldn’t have been more apt because Sunday is Gita Jayanti.

Sherlyn hopes her visit would entertain the prisoners.

 

“I think life in jail must be really dull and stressful, and I hope that my performance not only entertains the prisoners, but also raises their spirits,” she is quoted as saying by a tabloid.

 

Sherlyn’s shayari became quite popular on ‘Bigg Boss 3’ and she’s looking forward to show her poetic side in Arthur Road Jail as well.

Venus of the Screen-Madhu Bala

Mumtaz Begum Jehan Dehlavi famously known as Madhubala was born on 14 February 1933 was an extremely popular Bollywood actress who made a mark in the industry which no other actress has managed to achieve so far.
Even with contemporaries like Nargis and Meena Kumari, she was regarded as the most talented and powerful actress that Hindi Cinema had ever seen.

Madhubala was born into a conservative Pathan family in New Delhi. When Madhubala's father lost his job at the Imperial Tobacco Company in Peshawar and she lost her four sisters and two brothers, life came to a standstill for her and her family moved to Mumbai in search of a better life. They frequented Mumbai's film studios in search of Work. After a lot of struggle, Mumtaz was made to enter the film industry at the age of nine.

first film of her Bollywood career, title Basant released in the year 1942 was a huge hit. In the movie, she played the daughter of actress Mumtaz Shanti. She continued playing a child artist in several other films. Her performance was noticed by celebrated actress of her times, Devika Rani who suggested her to change her name to Madhubala.Her performance and professionalism soon earned her fame and reputation in Bollywood. By the time she reached adolescence, she was chosen for lead roles due to her unmatched beauty and good looks.

Madhubala got her first big break in the movie Neelkamal released in the year 1947, directed by Kidar Sharma who cast her opposite Raj Kapoor. Until then she was always called out to as Mumtaz but this movie gave her the recognition of Madhubala. Though the movie did not do well at the box office, her performance was recognized.

She was known as the "Venus of the Screen" by the film media and her fans. However it was her role in Bombay Talkies production, Mahal(1949) that made her a household name. Audiences drooled over her presence on the screen and wanted to see more of her. She was only sixteen at the time when critics acknowledged her subtle and dexterous performance overshadowed veteran actor Ashok Kumar. The film went on to become a huge hit and the song "Ayega Anewala " gave the industry two new superstars- Madhubala and Lata Mangeshkar.

Madhubala gave many successful films following the movie Mahal. She acted in as much as twenty four films to secure the financial position of her family which greatly compromised her credibility as a actress.

During 1950's she proved herself as a versatile performer by appearing in movies like Badal(1959), Sangdil(1952), Gurudatt' sattirical movie .She faced a down swing in her career in the mid 50's but got back on her feet again with the movie Howrah Bridge where she played an unconventional role of a cabret singer ensnared in the underworld of China town in Calcutta (now kolkata). She made a big impact with her attire in the movie. Nadira

Nadira who was born on 5 December 1932 was a profound Bollywood actress who contributed a lot to the Indian cinema. Nadira is best remembered for her performance in the 1950s and 1960s flicks like Shree 420 (1955), Pakeezah (1972) and Julie (1975), which also won her Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award.




Nadira acquired lot of fame with the 1952 film Aan with her role as a savage princess. Other than this Nadira played lead roles in a number of films like Dil Apna Prit Parayee, Hanste Zakhm, Amar Akbar Anthony and Pakeezah.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Nadira entered a new phase of her career, playing elderly women as a supporting actress in Bollywood films. The actress was last seen in the film Josh (2000). On 9 February 2006, this dynamic lady died at the age of 73 at the Bhatia Hospital in Tardeo, Mumbai following a prolonged illness.

The actor chats up with our correspondent on why she relented to do kissing scene with Emraan Hashmi and the kind of films she is looking for
Unlike your contemporaries, you mostly choose character-based roles (like in RANG DE BASANTI), rather than hero-heroine type.
Is it a conscious decision? Yes, very much. I am more keen on doing substantial lead roles with some meat in them; not necessarily the hero-heroine types.
I am too choosy when it comes to picking my kind of script. KHOYA KHOYA CHAND was my first lead contemporary role and now it's TUM MILE. In fact, TUM MILE is the most beautiful film in my entire career...I had to triple my efforts to play 'Sanjana' in the film. It's the most challenging role I have got to do so far.
You are new to the Bhatt camp. How was the experience like? This is the first time I worked for the Bhatts-Vishesh Films. I have always been a fan of Mahesh Bhatt because of his sensible yet exciting films; especially his romantic films-they are so electrifying and realistic. And I don't know how, the music of all his films is always superb. So what more can an actor ask for! I hope this is a start of a long association with them.
What was your first reaction when you heard that Emraan has been cast opposite you? (Laughs) I know what you mean... I was slightly apprehensive because I know what it means to sign a film opposite Emraan. I was aware that when you do a film with him there are things that go hand-in-hand, or rather lip-to-lip. But I relented. The story was so good that I said to myself -'If I have to kiss him for this film I will do that'.
Were you comfortable kissing him? Honestly, the kiss didn't register at all...it was so natural. I myself was pleasantly surprised that it happened so smoothly. It was more my type of kiss than the ones Emraan is famous for (giggles).
The film is about live-in couples and their problems. What will you go for in personal life-live-in or marriage? I would like to live in with the person I want to marry before taking a final call on the decision; because it is one thing to fall in love and another thing to stay in love.
How much your mother (Sharmila Tagore) and brother (Saif Ali Khan) interfere when it comes to choosing films? They don't interfere at all. But they are very sharp critics and always give tips, especially my mother. No matter how much I give to the character, she always has something or the other to say. Thankfully after watching TUM MILE she had only good things to say about my acting.
You are also doing a film with your mother... Yes, it's called LIFE GOES ON...and I am learning a lot from her. What about a film with your brother? I don't mind doing a film with him. But I don't want to play Saif's sister in the film.
Are you a partyholic? I am not a partyholic or a nightclub person. But I am often dragged there by friends. What do you do when not shooting? I love listening to music...any form of rock with a lot of acoustics. We don't find you in elaborate designer wear very often... That's because, I generally prefer wearing casual, urban leisure wear.

Did Bipasha lie about her role?

BIPASHA BASU MAY scream from the rooftops that it was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s insecurity that got her ousted from Ravana but industry insiders are refusing to believe her
In fact, a source tells us that Bipasha was never considered to be a part of Ravana, in the first place.
Director Mani Ratnam likes having item numbers in his movies - like he did in Dil Se (Chaiya Chaiya) and in Guru (Maiya Maiya) and was toying with.
The idea of having something similar in Ravana as well. Sources from the set of the film say Mani was planning to introduce the character of Mandodari, Ravana’s beautiful wife into the film.
This character was to do a seductive item number and a few scenes and then exit, an exact seven minute role.
When news spread that Mani was scouting for an actress to do an item number and a guest appearance in his film, Bipasha was one of the first actresses to push herself for this role.
“The character of Mandodari called for someone sexy and seductive, and many actresses were being considered. Bipasha wasn’t even on the top of Mani’s list. But Bipasha went ahead and told the press that she was offered a supporting role in Ravana,” says the source.
Unfortunately for her Mani had second thoughts about this item number. When Bipasha heard this she got nervous. She was worried that she would become a joke in the industry. A source close to her reveals, “Bipasha had announced to all and sundry that she was playing the parallel lead in a Mani Ratnam film.
This would definitely add to her market rate. But when she heard that the role was non-existent Bipasha realised she would become the laughing stock of the industry. “Bipasha flew to Kerala and pleaded with Mani Sir not to talk to the press that she was never the first choice for the film. Initially angry at her behaviour Mani, later, understood her plight and obliged her.”
However, Mani was later shocked when he heard from the grapevine that Bipasha was claiming that Aishwarya had used her friendship with his wife to oust Bipasha from the film. The source reveals, “Mani Sir doesn’t pay attention to gossip. He just laughed it off and remarked ‘if I let my wife and my heroines decide the cast of my film, I might as well let them direct the whole film’. Bipasha, apparently, has now become a joke on the set of the film.

Shahid and Vidya clash

As the D-day for the arrival of Shah Rukh Khan starrer MY NAME IS KHAN.
There is an around frenzy amongst movies to arrive in January since no big film is risking competing with one of the first huge films of 2009. Two such films are CHANCE PE DANCE and ISHQIYA that have pencilled in 15th January for their arrival on the big screen. Incidentally, the central protagonists of these films are Shahid Kapoor and Vidya Balan respectively, both of whom were seen together as a pair in KISMAT KONNECTION.
Both films were originally meant to arrive in 2008. However, Shahid Kapoor had two back-to-back releases in the form of KAMINEY and DIL BOLE HADIPPA and it made sense for him to space out his film. On the other hand ISHQIYA had to keep it’s release on hold since there was a flurry of releases in the last quarter of 2009.
What surprises most about the release of ISHQIYA is the fact that it was originally contemplating a 22nd January arrival. While 12th February too was being thought of (due to the relevance of bringing the love story over the Valentine weekend), confirmation of MY NAME IS KHAN resulted in change of plans. While 22nd January had appeared to be a confirmed day of arrival, a sudden pre-poning by a week looks more than just a coincidence, considering the fact it clashes with Shahid’s CHANCE PE DANCE.
However, to be fair to the decision of the makers, 22nd January is anyways crowded with RANN and VEER arriving on the same day. In comparison, 15th January looks much lighter with only CHANCE PE DANCE looking probable so far. Confirms Vidya, “Yes, I was told over the weekend that 15th January is final for ISHQIYA. Beyond that, I don’t have any knowledge about the reason behind the fixing of the release date.”
Starring Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin Shah in the lead roles, ISHQIYA is directed by first timer Abhishek Chaubhey and is a co-production of Vishal Bhardwaj and Shemaroo’s Raman Maroo. On the other hand IT’S MY LIFE is a UTV production, features Genelia D’Souza as the leading lady and has film maker Ken Ghosh at the helm of affairs.

Lara Dutta & Mahesh Bhupathi in London

Reports of an affair between Lara Dutta and tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi have been doing the rounds for some time now.
Lara, who recently split from Dino Morea, has been dismissing the link-up as rubbish.
Saying Mahesh’s celebrity management company handles her portfolio and this is the only connection she has with him.
Mahesh has also denied the relationship though his marriage to model Shveta Jaikishan is said to be on the rocks.
However, Lara and Mahesh have now been spotted in London. They have checked into JW Marriott hotel and are reportedly staying in the same suite.
We do not know the reason of their visit to London, but the couple will be staying in the city until Sunday.

As I have never sung in Hindi before," she explained, "Singing in English would have been a bit easier, but I don't let problems bother me."
Both Ajeb Prem Ki Ghazab Kahini and New York have cemented Katrina's position as probably the most popular actress.
In Bollywood and De Dana Dan with old sparring partner Akshay Kumar must surely add to that, but Katrina is not one to get complacent and is already determined to work even harder in 2010. "I won't take things easily. I work towards perfection," she said. The year will kick off with Rajneeti, where she will be paired once again with Ranbir Kapoor.

Vidya Balan mouths vulgar gaaliyaan

Think of Vidya Balan and the first thing that comes to mind is the picture of.
This demure, elegant, well-behaved, eloquent woman who would never use foul language for anyone, even for foes.
And now imagine her discomfort when she had to mouth.
The choicest of desi expletives for her role of a rural girl in the upcoming movie Ishqiya.
“Oh! I was very apprehensive while using those slangs. I have never used them in my real life but I had to because the script demanded. When you will see this movie, you will understand that it is justified. The movie belongs to a certain terrain where slangs are part of their lingo,” Vidya is quoted to have said in an interview.
‘Ishqiya’ tells the story of two thugs, an uncle nephew duo (played by Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi) on the run. They flee to a village in eastern Uttar Pradesh where they take shelter in the house of a clever village belle, played by Vidya Balan.
Vidya’s character in the film is nobody’s fool. She’s a fiery gal who utters gaaliyaan with fluency. However, mouthing those abuses was so embarrassing for Vidya that she did not even rehearse her dialogues on the sets.
“I never rehearsed on the sets as I used to feel awkward. So I used to come prepared on the sets and once the director used to say action, I used to forget everything and everyone,” Vidya said. In case you’re wondering what expletives Vidya has used in the film, she’s uttered the popular gaaliyaan that begins with ‘Ch…’ and ‘G…’.
Speaking more about her role, Vidya said: “As I am playing a rural girl, my look is very much deglamourised so that I look like my character Krishna. It is an interesting role with many shades.” ‘Ishqiya’ is directed by first time director Abhishek Chaubey and produced by Vishal Bharadwaj. Contrary to rumours, the film is not being re-shot.

Paa Amitabh is an incredible human being - Aishwarya

IIFI 2009 organisers fight over Amitabh Bachchan

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan is in the news for all the wrong reasons. He has become the bone of contention between the two organisers of the International Film Festival of India (IIFI) 2009.The Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) alleged that the Directorate of Film Festival (DIFF) did not want to invite Amitabh to the festival. Rajendra Talak, member of ESG’s Red Carpet Committee, claimed that ESG wanted to invite the Big B to the festival but DIFF was not interested.

Talak said that they felt Amitabh should grace the occasion but couldn’t do anything, as the final decision was taken DIFF. He added that ESG was not even allowed to recommend names to the Directorate.On the other hand, Director of DFF, S M Khan denied the allegation of the EGS. He said that they didn’t receive any formal or informal proposal from EGS to invite the superstar to the festival. He added that they didn’t receive any request even though he was in touch with the EGS.

Amitabh had earlier expressed his eagerness to attend the IIFI.When asked why he is not attending this year’s festival, he said that the question should be asked to the people who organises it.The IIFI 2009 will be held in Goa from November 23 to December 3.

Salman-Aishwarya love story on reel now

Small-time filmmaker Javed Khan is all set to make a film that is said to be based on one of the most talked about love stories in Bollywood — that of Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai. The film titled Ajab Hai Ishq is gearing up to go on the floors soon. Javed Khan, who is producing the film and also playing the lead role of Salman Khan in the film, says, “If a love story is depicted authentically and emotionally, the film will surely attract the audience.

Ajab Hai Ishq is a love triangle. The story resembles the real life story of Ash and Sallu.”In real life, the two actors may have gone their separate ways, but Javed will show a different version. “I want to send home the message that if you love someone, you should get married to her or him. Leaving your loved one in the lurch will not bring peace in your life.”

Interestingly, singer Salamat, who recorded the title track of the film recently, had earlier sung the emotional number Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam from the Salman-Ash film by the same name.

Aamir and SRK join hands for Paa’s sake

Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan have reportedly decided to forget their rivalry for the sake of Paa. Yes, come December and the supposedly warring Khans will join hands for the premiere of R. Balki’s Amitabh Bachchan-starrer in Mumbai. Confirming the good news, Big B writes on his blog: “Aamir and Shah Rukh have both assured me of their presence there, today, as I begin to send out letters and requests to block the said date from the industry.” On the other hand, the London and Dubai premieres of Paa have been cancelled. “Several issues have cropped up and it would not be prudent to go ahead with it, under such uncertain pressures and circumstances.

But Mumbai (premiere) is on … at IMAX Wadala on the 3rd of December,” Bachchan senior’s blog further informs.He is also gearing up to organise Bachchan Sandhya as a tribute to his late father, poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan.”Along with this (Paa premiere) is the preparation for November 28 and the ‘Bachchan Sandhya’ at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. (I am busy with) the arrangements, the invitees, the programme and its functions, rehearsals for the recitation and getting the family to gear up for its participation,” Bachchan adds.

Lucky Oye got those rave reviews, is once again in news courtesy Dev Benegal’s The Road Movie, a film that has taken the international film festival circuit before it comes to Indian shores. As the leading man of the film, Abhay has been jet-hopping from Toronto to Venice, New Delhi to Doha. On a day when he can actually catch his breath for a few minutes, the actor says, “I’ve bought myself a new office in Mumbai.My banner is all set to roll with our first production in the month of January 2010.My director Navdeep Singh and I are just finalising details before we go on set.”He has an achiever.

In the first leg of his journey, the young actor has gone from struggling actor to being the toast of the international film circuit; and in the second leg he has gone from being Bollywood hottie to independent film producer. Yup, in about a year, life has thrown up a myriad of opportunities for this contemporary thinking actor. But there has also been his share of controversy. Reports said he was unhappy with the treatment meted out to him on the sets of Sonam Kapoor’s home production Aisha. It is conjectured that Abhay was cooling his heels on the sets of the film in Delhi because things were haphazard.However Abhay refuses to be drawn into a controversy. Says he, “My producer should be clearing the air on any controversy surrounding Aisha.

As a professional actor I will never talk about what happened on set. I hold Sonam (co-star and part producer) in highest regard. And, there is no ego issue with her.Abhay is also expected to start work with Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s banner and he is said to be in talks with producer Krishna Shah for the film on Indira Gandhi. Of course, the actor’s silent on these films too. “My producers will make the announcements as and when they have to,” he says. “All I can say is that I’m exhilarated with the work I’m doing.”

Shilpa Shetty’s wedding jewelry worth Rs 3 crore

Shilpa Shetty is going to embark into a new life with her beau Raj Kundra and like any other bride; she too wants to look gorgeous like a fairy. To make Shilpa beautiful, designer Tarun Tahiliani has designed a special saree that worth Rs 50 lakh. Shilpa’s jewelry also costs Rs 3 crore. During Mehendi, the bride chose to wear Kaftan instead of lehenga or saree and for the sangeet she wore Anarkali churidar-kurta. The wedding attire will see Shilpa in a traditional Bunt saree colored burgundy and red. For the reception to be held on Tuesday, Shilpa will wear a saree resemblance to a gown with 8,000 crystal work over it.

Raj will wear a black sherwani for the reception.Confirms designer Nikhil Mehra, “Raj is wearing a black short sherwani and trousers. The sherwani has a lot of textures, applique and patterns, and muted Swarovski embroidery and crystals.”He further adds, “Raj has picked up two to three more outfits from us, but I don’t know if he will be wearing them for the wedding. Raj is a very well-travelled man and the best thing about him is that he knows exactly what he wants.”

Both Shilpa and Raj are very excited about the wedding. The wedding will take place today at Shilpa’s close friend farmhouse in Khandala.

Asin Thottumkal

Asin Thottumkal was born into a Catholic family in Kochi, Kerala. Her father, Joseph Thottumkal originally from Thodupuzha, managed several businesses and was considered a prominent entrepreneur before he stopped managing his businesses and decided to manage his daughter's acting career instead.

Furthermore Asin's father accompanies her to all her foreign shoots. Her mother, Seline Thottumkal, remains a surgeon despite moving settlements from Cochin to Chennai to Mumbai to live with her daughter. Asin has quoted that her name "means pure and without blemish". She claims that "the 'A' in her name is from Sanskrit meaning "without", and ‘Sin’ from English".

Asin Thottumkal, born on October 26, 1985 an Indian film actress from the state of Kerela. Making her acting debut in Sathyan Anthikkad's Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka (2001), Asin had her first commercial success with Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi in 2003, and won a Filmfare Award for the Best Telugu Actress for the film.

After a number of films, she received her second South Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her performance in her second Tamil film, Ghajini (2005). She played the lead female roles in hits, the thriller Ghajini (2005) and the action comedy Varalaru (2006). More recently, Asin made her début in Bollywood, with Ghajini, the remake of its Tamil namesake, subsequently winning the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award Award.

She looks fresh and photogenic and acts her part brilliantly, giving Asin's performance a positive outlook. Asin is committed to Vipul Shah's London Dreams alongside Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan, in which she plays a member of a five-troupe band. The film got released on October 30, 2009. She recently judged the Pantaloons Femina Miss India 2009 and Fashion Big Bazaar's India Ka Fashion Star 2009 events.

The Aamir Khan- Asin action romantic musical Ghajini has turned out to be the biggest ever-Hindi blockbuster in Kerala. Aamir is going all out to promote and recommend Asin. She has replaced Gul Panag in the Tata Sky ads and Aamir, who is brand ambassador for Titan's watch line has also helped her bag an endorsement deal with Tanishq which is Titan's jewellery brand. He has recommended her for a Disney film as well. She is definitely a part of his camp now. Asin is very good in Hindi and does not need another person to dub for her is also seen as one of her advantages.

With her attractive looks and considerable histrionic skills, she could be the next southern siren to conquer Bollywood after Vyjayantimala(Tamil), Hema Malini (Tamil), Rekha (Tamil), Jayaprada (Telugu) and Sridevi (Tamil).

Madhuri Dixit as Indira Gandhi

Acclaimed film maker Krishna Shah, who has films like Shalimar, Hard Rock Zombies, American Drive-In and Cinema Cinema to his credit, will soon make a film based on the late Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi’s life. Shah had been penning the script of Mother: The Indira Gandhi Story for over two decades now and he feels it is the right time to bring it live on screen.

Noted Bollywood star Madhuri Dixit has been signed up to play Indira Gandhi in Mother: The Indira Gandhi Story. The Variety magazine reported that the film will hit the marquee in 2011.
