Sonam is the elder daughter of Anil Kapoor and Sunita Kapoor, and the granddaughter of filmmaker Surinder Kapoor. She is the niece of producer Boney Kapoor, actress Sridevi, actor Sanjay Kapoor and producer Sandeep Marwah. Kapoor is the eldest of three children; the others are sister Rhea Kapoor and brother Harshvardhan. She went to school in Mumbai at the Arya Vidya Mandir school in Juhu and then enrolled in the United World College of South East Asia to do her International Baccalaureate. She speaks English, Hindi and Punjabi, and is a trained dancer.

Celina ,Nandy,Sonam Kapoor expressed their support to Bipasha Basu
After Celina Jaitley, Bollywood personalities Pritish Nandy and Sonam Kapoor have expressed support for actress Bipasha Basu whose voice is alleged to have figured in taped conversations with former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.
"I believe @bipsluvurself (Bipasha) when she says she is not in the Amar Singh tapes. Doesn’t sound like her at all," Nandy posted on his Twitter page.
Sonam added: "I agree. A bunch of vicious losers are doing this! It doesn’t sound like her at all. It’s so improbable, it’s almost funny."
Bipasha herself has denied that it’s her voice in the controversial tapes, which were barred from publication in the media since 2006 until Wednesday when the gag order was lifted by the Supreme Court.
Former beauty queen-turned-actress Celina had also extended support to Bipasha. She said she had heard the tapes herself, and was confident that the girl in the tape was not Bipasha at all.

Now, there could be more hot air than substance to this piece of goss, but the buzz droning through tinsel town is that Sonam Kapoor has refused to kiss her co-star Shahid Kapoor in the latter’s dad Pankaj Kapur’s film Mausum.
Sonam has been shooting the film in Scotland with Shahid. According to grapevine, when the schedule was about to be wrapped up Pankaj Kapur popped his proposal of shooting a passionate kissing scene between Sonam and Shahid. It’s being said that Shahid was the one who gave his dad the idea of including a kiss in one of the scenes.
However, when Sonam was told about the scene, she reportedly refused to do it. She wasn’t told of any kissing scene at the time of script narration and she wasn’t going to be cajoled into it.
Sonam, who is now busy promoting her next movie Aisha, says she did not turn down any kissing scene because there was none to speak of in the first place.
Well, let’s not make much ado about a kiss.

Sonam Kapoor: I am not dating anyone
Prod her about the love in her life and Sonam Kapoor comes up with a reply which almost sounds rehearsed, courtesy the countless number of times that she has faced this question. Over the last 7-8 months, there have been rumours floating around her and Punit Malhotra, director of last Friday's release I HATE LUV STORYS, being a pair. However, it's the stance of 'we are just good friends' that Sonam is willing to take.
When asked to comment about the stories floating around her and Punit, Sonam says with a smile, 'Punit and I are good friends. At the same time I am not dating anyone right now.'
One does complain though that this was quite short and diplomatic. However, refusing to bite the bait, Sonam says, 'I think it is a personal matter. Even if I am dating anyone, I am not going to speak about it for sure. There is nothing to be discussed.'
What she is willing to discuss though are things which are not so personal. While IHLS deals with the subject of self denial when it comes to matters of heart, Sonam says that in real life, she has indeed seen something like this happening to people in her friend circle.
'I have actually seen that happening all the time and especially with boys', giggles Sonam, 'It is fun because most of the boys that I have hung around with are like that only to begin with. They say that mere saath aisa kabhi kuch nahi hone waala; this is something only for girls. But once they get hitched, their personality changes. Most of my guys friends have been through this phase.'

Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor – Latest new bollywood best jodi
Take heed all ye movie buffs. Bollywood is buzzing with all the talk about the incredible chemistry between Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor in the latest release I Hate Luv Storys.
In our poll we had asked our readers which is the best looking new jodi in Bollywood. Just a little under 2000 votes were cast, out of which Imran and Sonam got maximum number of ayes (53 percent). Interestingly, the duo outshone the popular jodi of Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif which has already given two back-to-back hits (Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and Raajneeti).
Also in contention were Neil Nitin Mukesh and Deepika Padukone for their film Lafangey Parindey.
Sonam Kapoor-“Imran is sexy”
The joshing and joking between Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor only goes to show that they are the next hot couple of Bollywood. Moreover, the duo has got a thumbs-up from critics as well.
Their chemistry is the USP of this Friday release I Hate Luv Storys. No wonder they can’t stop complimenting one another, when they are not pulling each other’s leg, that is.
In a latest report, Sonam says that when she first saw Imran in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, she found him “hot”. She loved his ripe lips and Maybelline eyelashes. But Imran is quite dismissive about himself. He doesn’t think he’s sexy.
“I think he is (sexy). In fact, Imran is gorgeous,” Sonam is quoted as saying.
However, Sonam was quick to add that she likes John Abraham’s butt better.
Well, now Imran has something to work on.
Hot kissing scene between Sonam and Imran?
A steamy kissing scene between Sonam Kapoor and Imran Khan in ‘I Hate Luv Storys’ has been much talked recently.
However the actress denies that she has done such a scene. She does however admit that there as some intense scenes between the two.
“I have never kissed him. We have done a song Ho Sakta which is sensual. We were quite comfortable doing that as it is a part of the job,” tells Sonam.
While Imran is comfortable holding only his fiancee Avantika hand, Sonam on the other hand would not like to do anything which she can’t sit and watch with her family.
Well, this proves that there was no kiss between the two.
Sonam wants sleek figure like Deepika
Sonam Kapoor might have a sleek figure herself, but the actress wishes to have a body like Deepika Padukone’s.
‘Deepika has a great body and I wish I could have a body like her,’ Sonam told reporters here Monday at DT Cinemas in DLF Promenade in Vasant Kunj, where she was with her ‘I Hate Luv Storys’ co-star Imran Khan and director Punit Malhotra, to to promote her new film.
Sonam also dispelled rumours of any supposed cold war between her and Deepika, after she was linked with Deepika’s then boyfriend and actor Ranbir Kapoor during the shooting of ‘Saawariya’.
‘I don’t know Deepika. Then how would I have a cold war with her?’ she asked.
Sonam, also denied that she refused to work with Deepika in Rahul Dholakia’s ‘Desi Boys’, starring John Abraham and Akshay Kumar.
‘The role that Deepika is doing was offered to me before. I would have loved to do it but because I was busy with ‘Mausam’ and ‘Thank You’ I could not take it. It later went to Deepika and I am sure she will do a great job,’ she said.
Imran and Sonam were greeted with much fanfare at the mall. They joyfully interacted with their fans and they even shook a leg together at the title song of ‘I Hate Luv Storys’ for the audiences. The film is set for release July 2.
