Genelia D'Souza (born 5 August 1987) is an Indian actress, model, and host. She has appeared in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam language films. After gaining wide attention in a Parker Pen commercial with Amitabh Bachchan, D'Souza began her acting career with Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003. She was recognized for her role in Boys the same year, and later established herself in Telugu cinema by acting in several Telugu films during 2003–2005.

Rao was born in Mumbai to a Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin family. She speaks Marathi, Hindi, English and her mother tongue, Konkani. She attended Canossa High school in Mumbai, and later enrolled in Sophia College to pursue a degree in Psychology. Her younger sister, Preetika Rao, is also a film actress. While studying in Sophia College, Rao auditioned for an advertisement for Fairever Face Cream. Her appearance in Cadbury’s Perk Karwa Chaut ad and the Bru Coffee advertisement helped her receive offers from film directors in Bollywood.

Her father was in the hospitality business and this gave her the opportunity to travel around the country and meet many people. She can fluently converse in Hindi,Punjabi, English and French. She did her schooling from Sherwood Hall and later on moved to Chettinad Vidyashram, both in Chennai. In 2004, she majored in English with honours from Miranda House, University of Delhi. Her mother is also very talented and is a painter.
