Suhasini Mulay was born in 1953. Suhasini has acted both in films as well as television. She won National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1999, in Gulzar's movie Hu Tu Tu.. Suhasini Mulay born in Patna, was brought up by mother, Vijaya Mulay and she lost her dad at the age of three. In 1965 Suhasini was chosen by Pears Soap to be its model.
It was this ad campaign which caught the great Mrinal Sen's attention and he signed her for Bhuvan Shome in 1969. The then 16-year-old Suhasini Mulay went on to win a National Film Award for her power-packed performance. She also finished a degree in mass communication. The actress majored in film, radio, TV, journalism and print from Canada. After coming back to India in 1975, she picked up as assistant to Satyajit Ray in the Bengali film Jana Aranya.
Later she went back to Mrinal Sen as assistant director in Mrigaya. Since then, the actress is actively producing movies and has made over sixty documentaries. She achieved national awards for four of them. She has been playing motherly roles in Bollywood. She will be next seen in Faruk Kabir’s directed film Allah Ke Banday which will release on November 26, 2010.
